Copenhagen Zoo – Dream Oasis for Kids!

Planning a family holiday to Copenhagen? Nothing can be more fun and adventurous than a visit to the amazing Copenhagen Zoo – Europe’s most enjoyable Children’s Zoo, dazzling over a million annual visitors. From riding a pony and playing with some animals, like rabbits and goats, to watching the cow being milked and the lions being fed to enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding parklands and city from the Zoo Tower and more, you will have a day full of memories and beautiful moments.

Located on the Valby Hill, between Frederiksberg Park and the Søndermarken area and covering over 11 hectares of landscape, Copenhagen Zoo is home to 3,500 animals  including numerous animals from Africa and the Savanna, as well as from the icy snowfields of Greenland, add to this several extremely rare animals, like Amur Leopard and Amur Tiger.

The zoo first opened in 1859 and the only animals people could contemplate at that time were eagles, ducks, a fox, rabbits, chickens, a seal in a bathtub and a turtle on a little bucket. The zoo has changed enormously since then and today has much to offers its visitors: a wide variety of animals, some 270 species from every continent of the world that are gradually being given new homes of the highest possible standard.

The zoo is noted for its new Elephant House, designed by the world-famous architect group Foster & Partners, a unique place that provides these amazing animals with a stimulating environment like their former Asian habitat, as well as easily accessible spaces for the public to enjoy their daily life. The landscape is made up of sand, also featuring a 3-meters deep and 60-meters long lake, where elephants like to play and interact naturally. A new Savanna resort has also been established and a Hippopotamus House, where you can watch hippos under water.

On the southern side of the zoo, visitors can find the Children’s Zoo with its kid-friendly goat petting area. This is a very popular spot and a must see for all children, and why not for adults. Its main landmark is the 43.5-meter high Eiffel Tower-like Zoo Tower, built in 1905 entirely out of wood. There is also a rabbit playground open year-round and a new flamingo aviary opened recently. The zoo is heavily involved in studying the behavior of animals and developing animal conservation strategies.

The zoo is a highly professionally run organization that, recently was voted by the European Aquarium and Zoo Association, as Europe’s top zoo for its conservation programs. Open 365 days a year, the Copenhagen Zoo is sure to delight the whole family!

In the vicinity of the zoo, travelers will find a wide selection of hotels to suit any budget, from simple apartments to luxury hotels and everything in between. More famous are Frist Hotel Vesterbro, Scandic Copenhagen, Scandic Sydhavnen and Clarion Collection Hotel Mayfair.
